Why is it that on January 1st we start thinking about our New Year’s resolutions and start working towards accomplishing our goals? Maybe it’s because we know that during November and December we are going to chow down, socialize, stress, and gulp down gallons of champagne. We think we can simply reset everything on January 1st. The problem is whatever we do (or don’t do) will follow us into the New Year.

So, instead of saying: “Screw it! I’ll do whatever I want now, and start working towards my goals in the New Year,” what if you started on your New Year’s Resolutions TODAY? What would happen on January 1st? How much closer would you be to your goal in the New Year? What can you do in the next 15 days that would bring you closer to your goal?

The most common New Year’s resolution is to either stop smoking or lose weight. What if you started working toward your goal today?  Even a little bit of constant effort will accumulate towards your larger goal. You would have two weeks of constant effort toward your goal! How exciting!

Most people set goals, but, for some strange reason, they do not write them down. If it is not written, it’s not really a goal – it’s probably just a wish.

When you know what your goals are, write them down, read them, and say them out loud in order to anchor your goals into your brain – physically, visually, verbally and mentally.  When you have decided to really go after one of your goals, you truly make a commitment and cut off all other options and excuses.

Once you decide to fully commit to your dream or goal, your destiny is shaped.  And your destiny will be realized once you keep the promises you’ve made to yourself by following through on your commitments. You have the power of choice. You deserve to live the life of your dreams.

What is ONE (just one) action you can commit to do in the next 15 days to end 2013 with a bang and get a running start on 2014?  Commit to live today to create the tomorrow you desire.
